City portrait #24 – Nikola Bogdanović

Nikola is a young graphic designer from Prijedor, BiH, who caught my attention few years ago with his set of lamps that he made out of trash and industry remnants. His work is extraordinary and very creative so I decided to by some of it.
Concerning this portrait, I had a big dilemma how to show his inspiration by light. So… we tried several times but I was not satisfied with the result and finally, yesterday it just hit me and we did it in a few minutes.
Here is the result:

Final City Portrait

This is my first group portrait in City Portraits series and in the same time last one in the same series. On the picture is DUU MANIFEST.

Once again, exhibition will take place in Prijedor city Gallery 96 on 30th of July 2010 and will last for a month. So, wherever you are, I believe you will find time to come to see it.

If you are interested in technical stuff about the photo, here it is:

This is not composite photo. It is one exposure of 61 sec. where I was running around all these people, lighting them with two small strobes from my hand (why two strobes? – I used them alternately because of the charging time).   F stop was 8 because I find it ideal for the power of my strobes but also good enough for some decent depth of field.

City portraits Exhibition

I’m proud to announce an exhibition of my series of City portraits that will take place on 30th of July in Prijedor city Gallery 96. Opening ceremony is planed for 20:30 h, so I’m inviting all of you (no matter if you are near or far away) to come. I would like to thank DUU”Manifest” (Association of urban artists) who helped me to organize it.

I’ll give you more information about all details in next few days. Day after the opening, I’ll present a simple workshop on basic photographic technique that is free to attend (basic photographing technique, composition, light, etc.)

Tihomir Ilijašević – artist, painter, director of city gallery, Gallery 96 in Prijedor.
He is also a caricaturist and I asked him to draw himself with light as a contrast to real him. This kind of shooting is based on many tries and many mistakes. This particular picture is taken in 42 seconds and f stop was 8.
My advice to all of you who will try light drawing on your pictures is to have some kind of canvas behind camera (a wall, or blank sheet, or a truck 🙂 ) because it will be much easier to draw when you can see some of light trail.

Light painting

Had a little time today (tonight) so I went to my parents place to test my new Led lights. I’m using Fenix LED lights and I’m amazed how powerful they are. Also, very well built and water resistant so even it rained a bit I was able to do some photos (to bad my camera isn’t water resistant).

Light painting is very wide field in photography because with very little effort one could make very effective photo and it could be done with things you have with you every day. A cigarette lighter, mobile phone, candle, you can paint with light even with your camera movements on long exposures.

It is interesting to experiment with light painting not only in abstractions but in portraiture, landscapes, and many many other fields. There are also a lot of examples on Flickr and other similar sites and of course, if you haven’t seen LAPP and Lightmark go and check it out.

What to say abut those images? Nothing special. Exposure was about 30 sec and only tunel-like photo was made with 2 min exposure. Camera on tripod of course.

My lights are Fenix P2D and Fenix E01.

LAPP – Light Art Performance Photography

Interesting stuff I Stumble it upon. Incredibble photos which they make with some kind of LED lights with controled movement and they look great. I’m interested to know how they do it, so, if anyone has some ideas or know something about that, feel free to write it down.
